The APAN 58 Local Organizing Committee (LOC) and APAN Program Committee (PC) is delighted to extend our warm welcome to all delegates and guests to the 58th Meeting of the Asia Pacific Advanced Network (APAN58), to be held in the beautiful city of Islamabad in Pakistan, on 26 – 30 August 2024. This is the first time that Pakistan is hosting a Physical meeting of APAN.

We welcome you to Pakistan, a nation celebrated for its rich cultural diversity. With a population comprising numerous ethnicities, languages, religions, and traditions, Pakistan's cultural landscape is a tapestry of identities and histories. The APAN 58 participants will be enjoying the delightful fusion of flavors influenced by various regions and cultures.

About Asia-Pacific Advanced
Network (APAN)

APAN (Asia Pacific Advanced Network) is an organisation and also a network that connects the research and education networks of its member countries/economies and other research networks across the world. Education and research Networks representing the countries of Asia and Oceania are members of APAN. It is a not-for-profit organisation that is the legal entity created to undertake the activities on behalf of APAN members. APAN promotes and facilitates network-enabled research and education activities related to network technologies, services and applications among its members.

APAN is a valuable platform for researchers and technical experts from various countries to exchange their insights and establish partnerships for future endeavors. APAN58 will feature various workshops, tutorials, presentations, panel discussions and an academic conference covering advanced network technologies and applications. We hope that APAN 58 will serve as a platform for interesting discussions and fruitful collaborations leading towards sustainable societal well-being.

About PERN

Pakistan Education & Research Network (PERN) being one of the flagship projects of Higher Education Commission (HEC) that has interlinked nationwide universities and provided services to the researchers to get access to a fully integrated communication system. PERN focuses on collaborative research, knowledge sharing, resource sharing and distance learning by connecting students, faculty members, and researchers. The PERN provides an ultra-high-speed backbone network which has 40 Gbps core backbone network extendable to 100 Gbps interlinking 70+ cities across the country while offering 10Gbps last mile to the universities. This powerful digital infrastructure provides HEIs with national and global resources - data, tools etc. fueling the engine of innovation in today’s digital economy. More than 50,000 researchers at 400 plus Pakistani universities/ institutes/ research organizations/ colleges are able to contribute to research with the use of this network.

PERN offers services to the universities across Pakistan in form of packaged resources including commodity bandwidth, intranet access, Eduroam, smart universities (blanket Wi-Fi coverage), video conferencing, smart classrooms, safe campuses (video surveillance), digital library, anti-plagiarism, and licenses, softwares and tools. To objectify the benefits of PERN in the interest of promoting collaborative research and providing services that are at par with the developed world, PERN has been collaborating with international R&E networks including Trans Eurasia Information Network (TEIN) that further links and provide access to the global NREN consortiums like Internet2 (USA), CANARIE (Canada), CERNET (China), GEANT (Europe) and others.
